Oxon/Berks/Hants/Wilts Run - 12th May.
There seemed to be some interest in a rideout from Milton Services on the A34 (near Didcot). So as a try-out lets go for Sunday week, 12th May, and I suggest we meet up in the McDonald's car park at 10:30 for a 11:00 departure.
I have a route from there that I'll be leading for another group this Sunday, so I'll base it on that. It's a mix of open flowing rural roads and some, er, less open and flowing rural roads. Suitable for all levels of experience and, let's say, progressiveness.
The first half finishes at Tesco in Andover, so you can fill up with whatever takes your fancy (or bring your own picnic, I don't mind). The second half winds back north -west, finishing at McDonalds at Watchfield on the A420 Shrivenham bypass, a few miles east of Swindon. But I suggest we see who turns up and what their preferences are, and I can modify (lengthen, shorten, change the finish point etc.) to suit.
Any takers? Any questions? I'll post any more details I can think of during the week.
Looking forward to meeting a few of you, at last.
Bob

Woohoo - great to hear that something is starting to take shape down south......not a euphemism - honest.
I'm be saving my new tyres for the Alps so will need to give this one a miss though.
Hope it all goes well with nice weather, nice roads and a great day out.
Cheers

Re: Oxon/Berks/Hants/Wilts Run - 12th May.
Since I live in Didcot I'd be mad not too! It does depend on domestic plans (currently refurbishing a house and weekends are the only time I get on it).
So count me in unless you hear otherwise (but don't be upset if otherwise happens!).

Bugger I'm on nights that weekend.
If I manage to drag my ass out of bed some time in the afternoon. I will get on the bike and see if I can find you all for an hours blast before work.

Reminder for this, Milton Services A34, Sunday 10:30 for 11:00.
Weather looks hopeful, at least for the morning and early afternoon.

That's the one.
The A34 doesn't have junction numbers, but just look out for the now redundant cooling towers of Didcot power station - it may be your last chance to admire them before they're blown up (insert exploding smiley here, if you can find one).

I am currently in bed about 10 minutes from the start of this and can report that the sun is shining through a light, hazy cloud. I'm planning to be there!

Re: Oxon/Berks/Hants/Wilts Run - 12th May.
Just back from this. Nice to meet Bob and Tom; Bob was an excellent lead rider - who knew such roads were in this area?! Mostly dry, though the rain set in about an hour from home, but didn't really upset the ride.
It was a bit chillier than I had anticipated, so the bath is running as I type. Nice to get a decent ride under my belt this year; looking forward to BC now!

Re: Oxon/Berks/Hants/Wilts Run - 12th May.
Good stuff! Will definitely have to try and make one of the repeats although will need to get bike in shape first. Couldn't make this one but was able to get the bike out for an hour really early this morning but need to stick on a dyno as not getting the expected performance.
Fingers crossed will be ready for next one, glad you had fun!

Sorry, Tel, what was the question again?
Yes, after a few years on the forum without actually meeting any of its members, it was good to match at least a couple of faces to the names.
We let Tomcat loose on the A4 west of Hungerford, soon after the rain started - hope you got home safely and not too damp, Tom, and many thanks for making the long trip from London.
Bob
