Is 42000 a lot for a bike? Honest opinion?

Well I wouldn't touch a bike with that mileage as there are plenty of low mileage bikes around, but I know there are people on here that have high mileage bikes and have had very few issues with them.

I guess it really does depend on who you ask, I'd say no (not a lot). My first 'Cat has done double that and is still going fine. The more important part though it is OK to have high mileage provided it has been reasonably looked after.

The reality is that higher mileage does mean lower price. A well cared for high miler is, in my opinion, a better buy than a low mileage in so so condition.

You do pay a premium at a dealer, but you do have a comeback and there ought to be some warranty.
He's probably hungry, so see what he can do/give you to convince you to buy it.

Have they changed the chain etc? What they asking ... £1300 ish?

Yep brand new chain/sprocket, brand new tyres, brake pads... It's up for 1275 so I am considering literally just walking in, put 1000 cash on the desk and say I want to ride away on that bike this afternoon?

That's a lot of fun for £1000!! Especially with SH etc, second hand bikes are fetching loads at the moment.

I might just get the cash out and put it infront of him... It says it was a part exchange so he will still be making money off of that.

Not if it's looked after. My cat had 32 or 37k on in 2008 last time or was used. My blackbirds has 62k on it.

Stan,

Steve's you man. His last cat went round the clock What a Face (Km tho). I know cause I stopped to see what was up and he was taking a photo of said odo. I'm sure its on this site somewhere.

So no 42k is not bad if the bike is looked after.

Rich.

Yeah, I dito what Rich said.

A well looked after bike with high miles (kms) is better than an abused low miler.

But , hey ho , you've missed that one now. But you are now the richer for the knowledge.

If it'd been a private sale I think we'd have all said "have a care" but with a dealer and the history you described . . . . we'll never know now huh ?

Keep searchin' . . . there's a Cat with your name on it out there Thumb

A looked after Cat(oil changes) will be good for high mileage. Any vehicle that has a lot of cold starts and short trips will wear more, and hard revs from cold will make it worse. I would buy a well looked after high mileage Cat if I knew its history.

well most on here know my fazer from moments like :the superman impression on the motorway when everyone went the wrong way,, tol 2010, and the round the sheep incident 1 & 2 from 2011 tol,, the fact that the fazer is cat based and has done 79k it is by far the most fun i have had for a long time,
would say the only issue i have had with it is the clutch basket rattles when warm on tickover , apart from that it goes like a train !!!! eh ross

I ran my 86 FZ750 to well over 40k with no problems. 12 years later it is still going to the best of my knowledge. Cycle part wear and tear, suspenion units etc could be an issue and maybe things like brake discs could be wearing thin by now, but a well looked after bike should just keep running fine. The £1000 cash is a good idea. Keep another £100 tucked in your back pocket just in case they play hard ball...
