Taste of Lincolnshire - Part 1 - The Wrong Trousers!
Sorry it has taken so long, life has been a little hectic of late...
ToL 2017 - The Wrong Trousers
Greencat has been running the annual ToL for well over a decade and up to now I had managed to miss out. True I have only been a member of the forum since 2008, but somehow this event had always eluded me. I had heard nothing but great things about the rides, the roads the venues and of course the company. Even the odd 'incident' over the years hadn't stopped all the feedback been pretty positive. Add in Ellie's contention that Lincolnshire has the best roads and it was with considerable anticipation that I finally got to point my trusty Thundercat in general direction of Lincolnshire. After battling through miles of standing traffic where my long dormant dispatch riding filtering skills were worked to the max (Mandy reckons she heard people in the cars swearing at me as I squeezed the bike between them), then getting lost in the outskirts of Lincoln before being put in the right direction by the lads at a local Duke dealership, we finally made it!
Somewhere in Lincolnshire....
I rocked into Woodhall Spa and was immediately charmed by this quaint and oh so English little town. It is of course most famous for its association with the legendary 'Dambusters' of RAF 617 squadron, but I was here for ToL and will have to come back to check out that side of the area another time.
The Village Limits pub was quickly located and I rolled into the car park to a warm welcome from Chris, Pete and Big Nige who were already there. At least we had a token Thundercat now!
See, we do actually have a Thundercat!
The accommodation was spot on and MrsR was most impressed...if she is happy then I am happy...we all know the rules! Weasley soon rolled up on his Thundercat too, doubling our numbers. Pete was on his last big ride out on his veteran FZS600. Now this boasts a Thundercat based engine and some other shared parts. On that basis we concluded that Tol 2017 could proudly boast 2.5 Thundercats, thereby beating WeeMac 2017 for example, which only could only claim Rosco's example before his unfortunate visit to Lincolnshire!
Then there were two!
Last to arrive were Bonnie and Clyde, aka Ellie on her Z1000 and Nick on his sublime Yamaha EXUP. Good to see everybody here in one piece
The social in the evening was superb as ever, the banter and beer flowed in equal measure, and couldn't help admiring Nick for maintaining his 'bad-ass' biker image by wearing his leathers to the pub. He did look like a rather poor (and short) Hoff impersonator, but each to their own! Turns out in his haste to join the fun he had left his casuals back at base...so the creaking leather look was a bit of a cock up! In the great male tradition he of course blamed his Mrs for not packing correctly. Very much a case of The Wrong Trousers!
Nick, or should I say 'The Hoff' in his beloved leather trousers....
As is always the case with Thundercat.org socials the evening passed in a flash, great beer, superb food and even better company.
The Hoff, doubtless on the phone to his agent...'Who the hell booked me this gig??? Don't they know who I am???!!
Time to sleep soundly in anticipation of a great days riding ahead!
More in Parts 2....hold your breath!
