SSL Certificate / HTTPS
Hi Folks,
Just to forewarn all forum members, . . . there may be some disruption to forum functions in the near future as we attempt to install the SSL Certificate.
This work is done within the ACP of the forum, and may effect some user functions in the short term. We ask for your patience during this period of change. We shall address any foibles as and where they should arise.
In the meantime, should you notice something we may have missed, please make us aware of where and what you have encountered, and we shall attempt to address the matter as soon as we can.
We shall inform you of when this work commences . . . Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding.
Cheers

Re: SSL Certificate / HTTPS
Work has started converting old links and picture urls from http to https.
This has to be done so functions installed over a number of years can continue to function or be seen.
There is a lot going on behind the scenes so if it looks a wee bit ropey over the coming days, please have some patience. All will come right in the end when the upgrade is fully in place and running.
Just as a look to the future. We 'may' be linking the forum to Topic'it.
The forum is already accessible via iphone and Android phones.
With Android imho the site looks better when viewed and accessed in "Classic View" .
Cheers

Re: SSL Certificate / HTTPS
Is that a genuine good luck wish , or a sarcastic remark born from some past experience in this endeavour having gone awry on your own forum ?
If the latter, what problems did you encounter, and how did you resolve them ?

Just a genuine Good Luck mate.
We never tried to use HTTPS, but having access to Cpanel would have made it a bit easier to force a redirect to the secure site (we already had SSL Certs built into the hosting package).

Okay, Thanks.
Not anticipating to many problems. Mostly hic-cups where an old link buried deep somewhere gets missed and doesn't get auto redirected to https from http and has to be manually searched for and altered.
I'm kind of knee deep (think froggy voice), in changing silly things like profile star ranks before doing the 'official' switch throw, in a bid to head off anticipated minor nausea.
cheers

Re: SSL Certificate / HTTPS
Well done Tel, thanks for all your hard work.
I was looking at the possibility of migrating a system at work over to SSL,it's not a board like this though. I don't have link issues to contend with, but lost the will to live after reading all the files I have to edit to get it to work, a job for another day - thank goodness all that stuff here is handled by the hosters

Re: SSL Certificate / HTTPS
Hi Steve,
Well I thought I had best roll my sleeves up and get me hands a bit mucky since I was one of the original and main protagonists.
I'm hoping all the work on the advanced search button you did will be encompassed within the http to https link change and nothing more.
Fingers crossed that'll be the case. I'm placing my eggs in the basket of "the search facility" you set up will be regarded as an independent "working thing" that we just externally link to that does the donkey work for us.
I hope that neither over simplifies your hard work nor insults your efforts doing it.
It could well be that my hopes are dashed and the basket gets fumbled and the eggs cracked n broke . . . . but you can't make an omelette and all that
My one concern is all the smileys in the box to the right of the "post a reply" box. Where they are uploaded or up-linked in the ACP doesn't have their url listed or visible like other pictures, links, buttons, widgets etc. etc. elsewhere within the ACP. So there is no way of telling whether they have been automatically upgraded to the new format or not . . . Ah well. we shall just have to wait and see huh ? If there is an empty or greatly depleted box of available emoticon smileys post upgrade, is something to be bridge to be crossed when we get there.
I'm going to make the request tomorrow . . . SO FAIR WARNED everyone . . . . . . There may be a few technical hitches in the coming few days ahead. We shall try keeping them to a minimum and fire fight as best we can. Please have patience while we iron out the creases.
Thank you.
Cheers

But please, I may be being a wee bit smug and could have easilly missed a button, picture or some other functioning widget in a place I don't often frequent on the forums, and perhaps you do. So if you come across something not there that was before, or something no longer functioning correctly, please make me or one of the admins aware and we shall do our best to rectifiy/repair or patch the issue.
Please note: This does not include pictures and links members have placed in their own individual posts to others on or within the threads.
Where things like that cease to function correctly it is for the individual poster to edit their own post to rectify any problems. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation with this.
Cheers n Beers Gals n Guys
