Hi All,

Bought a thundercat this week and figured i'd sign up n say hi Smile First IL4 i've owned although ridden a few already. Got to say i'm enjoying the responsiveness compared to the twin i commute on.

Cheers

that is indeed me salute

thanks for the welcome Smile only pic i've taken so far although i've done around 50 miles over today and last night when i picked it up
New 'cat owner :) IMAG2759_zpsaufzacgw

discovered a couple of issues in that time. I get drips of fuel out of the overflow after a run when parked.. not sure if its a float sticking or what it could be. the petrol cap is an aftermarket one that just screws on and not sure if it would have a hole to let air in (to void the vacuum)
the idle generally sits around 1500 or so (dunno if this is normal or whether it should be lower)

but other than those niggles it runs ok and i'm enjoying myself on it so far Smile

Hey & welcome to the forum.

Fuel leak could be a sticking carb float. Try some carb cleaner in the fuel.

Idle should be 1200 to 1400, in colder weather I keep mine nearer 14 as it runs better.

Ah good to know, it does rise once warm to around 1600 ish so I think an adjustment is needed. Its possible the previous owner fitted the rear can without doing anything and now it's running a bit leaner..

Anybody know what pads fit the blue spot calipers?? Assume these aren't stock..

Near certainty they are not, replacement pads are a personal choice - mine is EBC, organic front pads and Sintered rear part numbers are FA252HH for the front, two sets required and FA088 for the rear, just 1 set.

Welcome mate

There is a section for our group rideouts which we tend to do in various locations throughout the UK. You can see the details and sign up here:
https://www.yamaha-thundercats.org/f25-how-about

They are all over for this year but you can sign up now for the 2016 events. Smile

Just to be clear, the blue spot calipers are stock... the Thundercat was the first bike to get them (with the Thunderace).

Sorry if I misread the question and answered incorrectly - I took it the pads were not stock, as Weasley has said the calipers are originals.

I spent a large part of my life there. UK born, went there when I was 8 and moved back nearly 10 years ago. I have left the Safa flag in my profile just to warn people that I speak a bit differently Shocked Wink

almost the opposite for me, born there and came here when i was about 7 or 8 and have lived here since left thumb up

well, i pulled the front brakes off today to check the state of the pads.. 2 out of the 4 were down to the metal backing plate and the pistons need a good going over with some cleaner and a toothbrush (i may just bleed new fluid in for good measure)

EBC HH pads ordered, 4 ngk plugs and a new air filter as well Smile found the 'cat uses the same fitment oil filter as my gpz500 so i can use one of the spare i have for that.
Next things to tackle are a few rusty bolts holding the mirrors on and one or two around the headstock as i'd like to get it looking as clean as possible
