What have I done.
Don't worry the cat is here to stay.
Just that I got a good deal on a nearly new one and fancy some deliberate off road action occasionally.

Re: What have I done.
Where's it's ' beak' ?
Knowing bmw it will of fallen off or snapped.
Your Cat will still be better for reliability. But hopefully you'll have fun with it. Trails riding or proper off road woods riding?

You know I want to.
Yes I'm beak - less.
So I'm some of the gear and no idea.
Can anyone who does this sort of thing advise on what gear & protective gear I should be thinking about wearing?
Cheers

Re: What have I done.
Nice bike Ross. Sure you will have lots of off road fun with that.
Glad to hear the cat is here to stay, there seems to be getting less & less people on here still riding cats.

Re: What have I done.
Would you say the kinda gear you'd need is the things you worn when you had the off road experience in winter time? Perk cap helmet ( full face) and all that gear. I'd of gone for the xt 660 if your going down the route of 80/ 20 off road/ tarmac but the bmw for more 50/ 50 riding plus is a lot better on fuel.
So when is your trek around the world on it?

Re: What have I done.
Looks like good fun Rosco, been looking at a BMW myself at the Motorrad at East KIlbride recently and managed to disgrace myself a wee bit.
Tried to get on one, knew nothing of centre stands and managed to scrape my size 8's across it's panniers and seat, dealer comes over knocks it off the centre stand and then convinces me to try the more expensive option next to it. I then repeat my performance and scuff it all over too.
As I am leaving he restores my faith in stupidity by telling me that he has had to send the breakdown guys out to pick up one of his demonstrators as the prospective client has just put diesel in it!

Full body armour?
I dug the mountain bike out last year and went a ride around the moss with my 7yr old nephew.
It was fine for the most part, until I hit rough terrain, and failed to take into consideration that I was far more top heavy than I used to be.
Front wheel went into a small ditch, I pedalled fresh air in a frantic attempt to get out of it...for about two seconds... before pitching over onto my face, nearly breaking a collar bone and winding myself badly.
I reckoned I needed an ambulance, but my nephew was laughing his arse off.
.which is pretty cool, since it's what I'd have been doing.
Anyhoo,
Lesson learned was to reassess my capabilities more often than I used to.
Re: What have I done.
Nice one Ross, sure you're going to have fun off road with it.

Re: What have I done.
I'm going for the forcefield pro shirt & shorts for armour, under a waterproof jacket/trousers. You'll need proper boots too something off-roady with proper armour and shin protection.
