Paddock Stands

Probably been discussed before, but what options are there, for stands for my trusty steed.

ABBA stand all the way, yes there not as cheap but more stable and give you more access to all round

Hope this helps, in my experience I found the following:

Rear Paddock Stand

Is the cheapest option and is good for pretty much any job except removal of rear shock and/or swingarm, or anything to do with the front suspension or wheel

Front Paddock Stand

I don't like them, I have one, and I use it but it can get in the way of the front axle bolts and/or hinder the remove of the axle sometimes and it can be a pain in the ‘arris to get secured under the forks. Having said that, it does the job and is good to have but this is always the last stand I will go to use.

Headstock Stand

Not got one, not used one, but seen them in use and looks so much better than a front paddock stand, this goes over the front wheel and under the headlight part and into the bottom of the headstock, which means you get the bike off the ground and you are free to remove the forks with this 

Abba Stand

The mutts nuts, can bit a bit fiddly to get in place but with practice you can easily hold the bike up while leaning across the seat and get both sides of the stand together and in place easily. As mentioned, it's a bit more fiddly and a lot more expensive than the rear paddock stand but infinitely steadier. Once you have a decent selection of the different fitting kits, you will find you can mix and match and use it on most bikes.

ABBA Front Lift

Great bit of kit for getting the front end of the bike in the air, IF you have a flat bit centrally under the bike, on my BlackBird the exhaust is off centre and the manifold is quite far back so I don’t use this on the blackbird but on other bikes it’s been ace.

THE FUTURE, my mate has one and it’s awesome, makes lots of jobs sooooo much easier as you’re not on your back or your knees, the ONLY reason I do not have one myself is that the Mrs keeps waking up EVERYTIME I try to remove one of her kidneys to sell so that I can afford one.



There are many more options, but the above are one's I have own except the bike lift and the headstock stand, although I have not USED the headstock stand I have seen one used and would recommend one over the front paddock stand if you are buying.

Got to dissagree with Stretchie on the Mutts Nutts point though, watch this video from the Abba Site - Sky Lift:

How have I never see the front lift addition to the ABBA stand before? I may have to break the welder out...

And that sky lift, awesome, with the added bonus that if you are any good with photoshop you could make yourself look like a wheelie/endo king

I think it's going to have to be the ABBA stand. Thanks for the advice, good to get genuine opinion.
