When and how long would you want to go to the Ring in 2014?
Nürburgring - gauging interest
After the apparent success of the Alps trip this year I was wondering if anyone would be interested in going to the Nürburgring for either a couple of days, a weekend or longer?
I've been to the 'Ring a few times over the years and its always been great. Also the area surrounding it is lovely and ideal for bikes and the distance to the UK isn't too far either so you won't need over-night stays just to get there. Obviously I'd have to meet you at the Ring as I'll be coming from exactly the opposite direction.
Date-wise I was thinking either a week in June or beginning of September 2014.
Anyway... this is just to gauge interest and to see if its worth organising it officially in the "How About" section
So how about it?
Edit:
I've added a Poll now to see what the most popular option would be. I would most likely go for a whole week and we could probably book a place for us all. If people want to go for shorter times we can probably arrange a swap-over mid-week or similar...
But let's see how the poll goes...
Just 1 lap sir . . . suits you sir, Oh ! . . . Use full screen if you can
Think a video of a Thundercat is probably more fitting
Oh and here the live Webcam from the Entrance at Döttinger Höhe:

Re: Nürburgring - gauging interest
Hi Thomas,
Funny Thing that , Col (eccles), Matt (Lontarra), Pete (Mechy) and myself were only talking about the self same thing yesterday. Great minds and all that
Personally I think it's a great idea . . . although I'm not sure if there'd be much uptake this year. 2014 , me thinks, would get the punters a sniffin and a planning
I still have the details of the biker hotel we stopped at for the first combined Thundercat club de ~ Yamaha-thundercats dot org Treff, not more than 15 miles away from the ring and in the heart of the Eifel, if you be interested in making tentative enquiries to estimate costs, availability of rooms etc. etc. ?
But count me as a definite (maybe due to health issues), to get the ball rolling
Cheers
Tel

Re: Nürburgring - gauging interest
Definitely not this year, but I might be able to save some credits for next year! The hotel Tel mentioned was very good and nicely-located.

After driving the 'Ring a couple of times last year I have the bug!

Re: Nürburgring - gauging interest
I agree... 2014 is much better for planning and all.
In the past I've stayed at Sliders Guesthouse (http://www.slidersguesthouse.com/) which is run by a Brit (Brendan) who also leads you round the Ring and does tours of the area.
Very nice chap and his place is reasonably priced too. Plus you can watch UK Sky TV there

Yep... looks like that's what the voters call for.
Next question... how long do people want to go for? Just a long weekend or a whole week?

Excellent Qveschun Mein Herr
Depends on how many browny points people can accrue between now and then. I just hope to be fit and well enough.
Re: Nürburgring - gauging interest
Well I'm inclined to make it a whole week... 2-3 days at the Ring riding and watching 2-3 days touring the area and that's the week gone already.
There's also attractions and a Kart track at the Ring for a bit of relaxation
Though if people just want to ride round the Ring a few times a weekend is all you need really.
Decisions... decisions...

Re: Nürburgring - gauging interest
Not exactly sure when and where thundercat.de are meeting next year.
When we met them at the Eifel there was a touring car event on so we couldn't get on :(
Quite a few variables to iron out.
Be nice if we can please everyone all the time......we'll just need to get as close as we can.

I have been there, driving against some of the BMW Motorsport guys, including Dirk Müller. He beat me but I beat the BMW Motorsport chief racing instructor.[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
The Ring Boulevard is a massive white elephant though and a good part of the reason the Ring went bust.

Re: Nürburgring - gauging interest
Yep... there're gonna be races and other events on throughout the year but I think if we go for a whole week chances are that a couple of days will be open to the public.
Even during race weekends they tend to open for a couple of hours in the evenings.
Also... actually watching those races is good fun too and its free if you just make your way through the forest to the track

Christi Himmelfahrt 2014 Thursday 29th May to Sunday 1st June.
They use the same weekend each year (accept this year - being the proving rule). I believe we call it Ascension Day
Re: Nürburgring - gauging interest
Sounds ace and would love to do this but I wouldn't be able to spare a weeks holidays.
Plus it's a tad close to BC.
Good luck with the arrangements.

Actually... seeing as no dates have been discussed yet I don't think it will be close to BC
I'm thinking end of June would be good for me... or beginning of September maybe...
Also if a week is too long maybe we can find people who want to share the week, ie. one lot the first half and then swap over mid-week?
Still a long time to go and this is just to see if there is any interest, which obviously there is
