Plus fuel required x Mileage (approx 1600 mile round trip) ~ Channel Crossing fare ~ sundry expenses (holiday/health insurance, beer chits etc. etc.)

I would be interested in that, reading a recent "Ride", (or Bike or Fast Bike" I was taken by the article about riding the French Alps, the roads look amazing, also thinking about Bavaria as this is V biker friendly. I am embarking on a trip to Assen next year for the Moto GP with friends who make the trip every year and can't wait.

P.S not passed Mod 2 yet but test next Weds so should be alright by 2013!!

Would love to know more.......May I suggest the week of the kids half term so I can ship her out??

When we were told about this at the Big Mac a number of people indicated their interest.
The early posting of this is to make people aware of the trip, allowing plenty of time to be able to organise their holiday, bike, money etc. but also to gauge the interest in how many may possibly be going. If there are only a small number, then it may not be worth having the topics on our board.

I'm very keen, however time will tell if I'm up to it.

Well based on past events to the t/cat.de meets. They are held over three days.
Because of the sheer distance just to get to the base of the Alps for this one . . . I would suggest what might be ~ would be wise is to take two days over getting there on the way down. The same for the return journey.

2 days there
3 days meet
2 days return

That's 7 days of anyones time .

Would love to, however week off in May aint possible for a holiday starved school teacher.

for me depends on cost so will be keeping a eye on this i also have a normandy trip in the planning with work mates in march/april so not sure at present

Possible, but I am also looking into going to the TT for the first time in 2013 and the would be too close and use up too much holidays.

I have ridden in a bit of the Alps on my Thundercat and it is amazing

I'm definitely up for it seeing as the Bavarian Alps are only an hour away from here

Just as a suggestion to possibly get the cost of the journey down a bit... You could use a bike trailer for 3 bikes and tow that here by car. Should cost a lot less in fuel, ferry and so on and if there's 3 of you in the car you can share the driving so no hotel needed either. Alternatively you could use a van. A big transit fits 3 bikes normally...

I did the journey to the Bavarian alps in 2006 with the family and bike in tow. Worked great and you also don't have any issues with luggage
