1 of things i think is :
i crash the bike 2 times and they pay my money back couse bike was 1999y or 2000y so they dont care what was on the bike and how much you pyd for it
price for 1998y is 1000-1400 , price for 2002y is 1900-2400
let we say
my bike (Red 1998 mileage 30k) i pay for it 900 + 400 for new shock give 1300
i find another one (Red 2001 mileage 12k) price is 1500
look like same bikes but if i crash the one i have i never will get money back.
if i crash 2001 one i will bet money back or even more
I LOVE YOUR ADVICES EVEN IF YOU ARE CHEEKY TO ME.

one key bit of advice I would give is don't crash anymore! or you'll be uninsurable at some point.

try to keep what ever you buy shiny side up and tyre side down!

I personally wouldnt be looking at it in the view of how much money I will get when i crash it next lol you seem to make a lot of reference to not ever having any money, so surely the cheapest option makes sense and is the one to go for?

if you know that the only thing you need to do with the current one is the shock then do it, as you could flog this one, go get another at more expense then realise that the new bike needs buckets of work doing to it.

If there ain't a NASA badge on it, it aint rocket science! you've got lots of useful tips and advice on here and offers of help ..... so go forth and prosper Very Happy

Good Luck with your new purchase, I'm sure you'd fine the CBR a different kettle of fish to the 'cat. Can't beat Hondas for reliability.

And it's the fastest colour Tom, as you know great

It's your money, of course, but if I was you I'd think about saving your money and getting the shock sorted on your current bike.

With any bike more than a few years old, age and mileage become pretty much irrelevant and it all boils down to how well they have been (and continue to be) looked after. There's absolutely no guarantee that in six month's time you won't be in exactly the same position you're in now, but with a grand missing from your pocket.

You've said you need the bike to get to/from work - what will you do if there is only a winter of commuting left in the shock on the yellow honda or the blue tcat?

That said, whatever you choose I hope it works out well for you.

Mines an '05 plate and you can pick them up for £2500-3000.

Sorry Tel,
First one has damage to fairing and engine casing so Tom will be back to Square One.
Second is a Cat D, not normally a problem if the repairs have been done properly but the price reflects that it is a CAT D.

Look hard enough and you'll find them, they only made them from 04-06 and they're holding their money.

Everytime I'm out on it I get someone coming over and asking about it.
