Failed the MOT today on fork seals. Had no idea they were that bad. Anyone think its a job I could do at home? Or best to take it to my local mechy? Will probably replace the brake pads now since they are going to need doing anyway. Hopefully I can get it sorted within the next 10 days so I get a free retest. :(

I replaced mine last week. It went well, but it was a dirty job. The only thing that is awkward is undoing the Damper Rod Bolt. I had to bodge a tool out of an old jack handle to put down inside the tube to undo it.

You will need a fork seal driver or similar tool and something to set the fork oil level. As well as a good steel ruler to reset the height of the forks in the clamps. Other than that, a good socket set and allen keys should be enough.

Got mine done for £90.

Save all that messing around and the potential of something going wrong.

You can change the seals without stripping the internals, drop the forks out & they can be removed from the top
