I'm Matt, 22, from sunny burton on Trent. The cat was my first big bike.Got my 1998 in blue with 26,000 on the clock in June when passed my test (passed my test on the Thursday went and bough it on Friday) yeaaa I'm impatient.lol no problems at all other than it runs a wee bit rough under about 3,000rpm did read that this is how they are :S. Wil troll through the workshop bit. Since I've had it can't keep off it, already clocked up a couple of thousand miles.he he. Anways hello all and here's to many more years of biking.

Hi Matt, welcome, shouldn't be that rough under 3k. Take a look in the workshop there are some posts about it.

Thank you:) hopefully see me on here fairly often. And bit worrying then. Had a look at the air-filter on Monday and found a forest in there including bugs. So guessing a service is way over due also I'm going to try and balance the carbs see if that helps. Will let you know

Robertcains tried to tell me how to service my air filter. He'll be along shortly I'm sure to tell you and remind me (I was a bit drunk) how to do it.

Ha ha cheers Rosco. Discovered it was a k&n filter as well. I brushed all the crud out as best i could. Did seem to make it a bit smother so I'm hoping a bit of tlc will have it sorted. Need to do a few other things as well. Someone has gone a bit nuts with the anodised bits. Not my cup of tea really so changing them.

Hi & welcome matt. Check the k&n filter they have a tendancy to split. In my opinion the yamaha original filter is better & washable/reusable just the same.
Give the bike an oil/filter change, new plugs & fuel filter then stick some redex in the fuel.

Thanks for the welcome guys, and the advice. Will try the standard filter. Needs a good service anways so everything will get done. And that's not to bad for a service would have thought it would have been more. In burton tho there arn't many bike garages around only one yamaha dealer and never really trusted them. Don't suppose anyone one in burton knows of any good bike garages for future needs? Still going to do it me self tho, few other bits and bobs need doing. Should say it's only when there's a tiny bit of throttle, mainly notice it in traffic. Was looking in the workshop threads and found someone with the same problem. They say it could be the tps? Not sure what that is tho.lol and there were no posts saying if thenproblem had beern cured or what ot was.Going to put a thread up in the workshop place. Thanks once again for the input folks

Tps is throttle position sensor. Not that though as it has a rev counter error code if the tps is/has failed.
Another thing that can cause slow speed low rev riding jerkiness is a worn or poorly adjusted chain.

Thank you nanabanana, welcome to you as well There are no error codes Paul. Did read that about the chain, but i always adjust it correctly and lube it up. Was replaced by the previous owner not long before I had it not sure how many miles it's coverd since then. Did notice the gear change seems to be a lot smoother. Did wonder about the Cush drive rubbers? And least now I know what the tps is.lol
