First topic message reminder :

Hi Folks,

It's that time of year again, to pencil in the BC dates for 2016.

This year we have secured all 19 beds at a lovely Motorcycle orientated B&B called Bikers retreat in Dolgellau, Mid Wales, run by Nigel & Tiv, two fellow bikers. It's a place I have been considering for the last couple of years.

The beds range from £39 - £45 per person per night B&B for doubles, twins and triples (all en-suite) and one single with a private bathroom.

Deposit is paid direct to the B&B and is £30 per person, the phone number is 01341 423192, please mention Nick Shuker as it's booked in my name.

There is a bar with local beer and lagers and a bar menu, I will be visiting over the winter to establish what's best for the group with eating arrangements.

There is secure bike parking behind gates, a drying room for wet gear, and a workshop with tools and Nigel is very helpful and knowledgeable apparently.

There will be other accommodation available in the area, if required.

Feel free to ask any questions.

Nick

Hi, Nick, Spoken to the proprietor and he has moved one or two people around to free up the three bed room, so that myself and Christian can attend, was hoping that Bob would take up the other bed, but brother Pete would like to come and he simply hasn't got room for one more. I think Bob and Pete will still come but will sort their own accom. See you then if not before.

Sounds good Terry, I have no problem with anyone finding their own accommodation & joining the ride, however as things stand at the minute we will be socialising at the B&B both nights (unless I manage to find an alternative on the recce) which means those staying outside of the B&B will be separated from the main group in the evenings too. At this moment in time this is out of my control but I will attempt to find a solution if possible.

I take it that there is 'overspill' accommodation (at least within taxi range), for any further interest or late comers [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

It's all new to me too guys, there is accommodation within walking distance etc but it may mean socialising seperate to the main group, I am planning to recce the area over winter at some point so can report back once I know more.

Looks like I'll be missing this one then. sad

I can't commit this far ahead of time; the book-your-own-lodging-meet-in-a-pub kind of meet works better for me but I hope you'll manage to get by without me!  That's one less Cat there though... will any turn up...??!

If I'm being honest I can't deny I'm slightly surprised that it's fully booked already, I wasn't sure if we'd be able to fill all 19 beds given the numbers that attended BC this year, it was based purely on this years attendance that I took the plunge to book Bikers Retreat.
Like I've said previously I will attempt to grab a night at the B&B over the winter so that I can get a better picture of other accommodation & a possible alternative eatery for Sat night, at this stage I can't say anymore as I simply don't know.
I very much appreciate it's difficult to commit so far ahead & to be able to please everyone, I still feel Bishops Castle had run its course even without the issue at The Boars Head meaning we had lost 6 beds, Llandudno was a great temporary base but also had its own issues being so far out on the Peninsula, I am doing my best to find a good area & am learning as we go along too.
I'll get back with more info as I get it fencing blind

For the Scotland based rideouts we've got Wee Mac that has been based at the one location (a beautiful large house with great facilities) for a good few years now and Big Mac that moves venue every year where we normally stay in youth hostels.
There are pros and cons to both.
Folks are always welcome to book their own accommodation nearby and join us for the rideout and in the pub etc. and this is a regular occurrence too.

Jealous Sabotage Alert
There are plenty of spaces @ Wee Mac in late April / early May Wink
It won't be as hot as it is in fire breathing dragon country in June I expect and you can have square sausage and haggis for breakfast.......wots not to like.

Other rideouts are available - [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Great to see rideouts well attended. Always great to see new faces at them too.

Cheers

Tel, did you get my PM? Settings seem OK; all boxes checked which should be and I think computer security is OK as I sometimes get a random notification (e.g. your 'ghost' PM in the summer confused ). 'Tis a mystery

Not been on the site for a while due to other commitments and BUMMER!! Gutted I'm going to miss this due to accommodation, personally I really thought the "find a base and book local accommodation" really worked and I think the evening socialising is an integral part of the ride out, just my opinion. I understand BC had run its course (for obvious reasons but by the same rule had a fantastic time at Llandudno last year. At the end of the day I realise that these things take a hell of a lot of organising and I respect your decision to try it this way Nick. If there are any drop outs Will be happy to go on a reserve list. Have a good un chaps

Or could there be another oldcat out there masquerading  pale
Could you forward (PM or Email), a copy of that message to me please ~ see if we can figure out what's happening here  scratch

Hi Tel, I've had a look in back catalogue but can't find it I'm afraid; I do tend to empty the bin quite often. The pattern seems to be that if I go on the site I'll get a couple of notifications over the course of the next couple of days then nothing for 6/8 weeks and then a random message that goes nowhere.

You could always "day trip" it if you're unsure about overnighting. left thumb up
Doing that does make it a long day though. ponder
