Blimey John what happened mate?? Like others have said just glad you're safe and in one piece, bikes can always be fixed and I know that's not really the point but take some comfort in it.
Hope you get her fixed up soon, Lady Luck has to be round the corner for you

Re: May as well give up.
So peed off.
Left work, its light rain and severe gusts, took 1st left at roundabout just 80yrd from work, no problems. Bike was up right so started to accelerate away from the roundabout to the next one, the whole zone is a 30, out the blue the back wheel spins up and shoots left, made the mistake of letting of throttle so gave throttle again and that was the end of it, went down on the right side.
Sliding towards an oncoming car, everything's gone slow motion. The bike starts sliding towards an oncoming car so decide enough and separate, not going under any car.
Luckily the chap in the oncoming car keeps calm and avoids the bike.
Got up an picked the bike up but can't steer due to the handlebar being bent. So there I am in the middle of the road with one foot in the wheel trying to pull the bar up and straighten it. Had some success and we are able to steer it off the road.
Injuries.
My head never hit the road but i have pain in my shoulders and tender abdomen from the rucksack straps. The brake lever crushed a finger but only got bruising and swelling so got off lightly again.
I could understand it happening coming off the roundabout but in a straight line? Whether a strong gust of wind caught me while accelerating plus wet I don't know. Just peed I had just got her to good working order.
Wouldn't have been on her today but a garage had squeezed me in for carb balancing ready for Waddington and I did an oil and filter change last night.
Waddingtons a dead duck so focusing on just getting her road worthy for France next Thursday, I will ride her with the scuffs as long as she is mechanically sound.

Re: May as well give up.
Really sorry to hear that, John. Had it been raining long? Diesel on the road maybe? Quite common on or near roundabouts. Or any oil or something on the wheel from the work you/garage did to it?
It is gutting seeing your 'bike like that, but you have to think that it could have been worse. Car could have hit the bike or even worse, it could have gone over you.
Hope you get it sorted soon.
Regards
Mike

Re: May as well give up.
--edit Beat me to it Mike--
Roundabouts + Light Rain makes me think Spilled Diesel.
Full tank on a lorry, rags it round the roundabout and the stuff is still pissing down the outside of the tank for the next 50 yards.
Some are notorious for it.
The roundabouts on the A96 between Inverurie and Aberdeen, the roundabout at the Kessock Bridge in Inverness, and by far the worst in my experience (and I see they've started leaving signs out) is the first one on the road into Dundee from the north on the A90.
On the bright side though, apart fro the can and the clip-on, the rest of it is cosmetic and it also looks like the panel is in one piece.

Re: May as well give up.
Seems I have to drop the forks out the top yoke to get the handle bar off that may turn out to be an awkward job with tools I have so got to figure something out.
Found cracks in the screen this morning and damage to the left side fairing, can only summize it is from my foot.
Off eBay hunting today and will get some plastic weld to start sticking the current fairing back together.

Shit news John. As said before sounds like you we're real unlucky and hit diesel. When that happens your just a passenger. Not much you can do really.
Hope you get all sorted soon for not too much money.

Re: May as well give up.
There is a petrol station on the roundabout.
Just for my mind me and the brother-in-law will be taking a walk down to the scene - it's that close to work I can see the roundabout front the office window.
Not sure I would be able to ride at the moment as the swelling on the finger is causing loss of flexibility and flexing on induces some pain so griping and twisting a throttle or braking isn't going to happen.
It will keep me out of mischief while I put her back together.
Thanks for all the comments, don't think 2013 is my year - sure u want me to attend BC? Don't think anyone will want to ride near me at this rate! Lol
How's your repair going Chris?

Re: May as well give up.
Plastic weld? All you need John is a narrow soldering iron & do most of the work on the inside of the panel, sounds like cold tyres also played a part, Your always welcome on BC pal, looking for a tail end Charlie

Cheers Nick,
Got a narrow soldering iron. Just run it down the join while holding them together?

Re: May as well give up.
Aww shit John, glad your ok and like you say, it don't have to look pretty for Thursday.
Have a brew, walk around the bike and make bullet point notes of everything that needs fixing, then next to each put a tick for stuff that NEEDS doing for Thursday, a slash (/) next to stuff that would be useful and an X next to the stuff that you WANT fixing
I know it sounds daft and it's probably telling you how to suck eggs mate but I've fluffed up stuff by not prioritising properly and letting me heart tell me what to do in what order.
Good luck pal

Re: May as well give up.
Pretty much, I usually tack the panel back together in a couple of places to align it & make it more secure then v out the cracked area by running the soldering iron down it to leave a small recess, then slowly from one end melt the two sides back together filling in the recess, the key is to get both sides melting at the same time so that they become one, its also possible to do this on the outside & flat, fill & repaint for a permanent repair, if its a temporary cosmetic job just do the inside as it will look neater, btw don't breath in the fumesYZFJohn wrote:Cheers Nick,

Re: May as well give up.
Gotcha Stretchie.
Main target for tonight is to just get the right bar off, then the front indicators as one is sheard off the rest is easy but time consuming so will step back and make a list one those priorities are done.
Always worth posting mate as sometimes you just get the bit between the teeth and miss the obvious.
The endcan was being changed to the standard for France so no probs there.
Looking on eBay:
Right handle bar (watching)
Foot peg or 2
Endcan Bracket (may have one somewhere from the Cat).
Lower Fairings (this will take time to find right colour)
Kawasaki original parts site:
fairing bolts/ fixings (assorted)
Others:
May need new screen (found some cracks)
Indicators (hoping to find local)
just thought, at least I didn't hurt my balls in this one
