Almost there but failed Mod 2 :(
Hi everyone, it's been a long time since I posted, but I've had loads on, like finishing my degree, moving to Aberdeen, starting new job and learning to ride, not much really!
Anyway, I passed my CBT last November and then the theory, by the way, what's all the hazard perception lark, I didn't do a theory for my car test. I then had to wait until the beginning of March to start on a big bike and failed my Mod 1 first time (damn you U turn!), then passed second time with no minors.
So, we are now up to date. Today I had my Mod 2 and had a fairly good lesson beforehand, barring a few lifesavers missed and a hesitation at a roundabout it was quite good. Then I met the examiner answered the questions and set off. I thought everything was O.K and there was nothing to suspect otherwise, until I started the independent ride. I took a wrong turn, not a problem and then I kept going straight, for a long way. The radio had packed in!!! I must have gone about 15 mins before he tooted his horn and gestured for me to pull in. He then proceeded to fiddle with the radios for a bit and told me to make my way back to the test centre. We get back go in the room and he said the fateful words "I'm sorry but you haven't been sucessful this time"
Apparently I'd left my indicator on for the whole 1.5 miles of a road and it was dangerous, as people were coming off their drives and could have acted on my signal. Now this raised my eyebrow a little, as I always cancel them, because I know you can fail for it. I also know a few people who have failed for this and they were all told to cancel their signal, therefore knowing they had failed. I never got a peep until I got back? Also, if it was deemed to be dangerous, then why didn't he tell me to cancel it in the interest of safety, instead of letting me ride for a mile and a half and saying nothing? Apart from this I got 3 minors for a lifesaver, undue hesitation and incorrect gear.
I know it doesn't matter now and this is just letting off steam, but I'm more peed off with the fact that I have never done this in the past at all, not even on my lessons!!
Anyway, it's rebooked for the 16th and if I fail that then I'm knackered, as I'm moving to Aberdeen on the 20th and will have to start again to learn the roads.
Right positive head on now and I apologise for the negativity, but I needed to get that off my chest
onwards and upwards as they say, ride safe everyone and I'll update you all as things happen.

Re: Almost there but failed Mod 2 :(
Chin up, silly things like that happen.
I passed Mod 1 with zero minors, so felt very confidence going into Mod 2.
Ended up failing it due to hesitation. At a junction with a filter. Gap in the oncoming traffic, but I didn't go, instead waiting for the filter to change.
Very pissed of with myself.
Second time round, passed it with zero minors, though.
You'll kill it on the second time, no worries.

Re: Almost there but failed Mod 2 :(
Unlucky mate.
I don't think I've been on a rideout when someone (self included) hasn't left their indicator on for ages.
It is so easy to do.
Good luck in the new job and good luck with the mod 2 #2.
Cheers
Rosco

Re: Almost there but failed Mod 2 :(
Best to put that one behind you and start a fresh when you go for your next test. I failed my mod 2 first time for undue hesitation and speeding. When I got to my 2nd test I just decided and gonna show you I can ride a ride well. I was unstoppable, no hesitating at roundabouts or junctions, up to speed quickly and just been very confident. That's what they want to see, positive riding and that you wont get into trouble on the roads. I know what you mean about indicators thou, I was always checking them even when I knew they were cancelled, still do it now.

Re: Almost there but failed Mod 2 :(
Really sorry to hear that John and as others have said leaving an indicator on is commonplace amongst bikers, I'm forever doing it yet I seem like I'm constantly checking it's off. You need to put it behind you and kill it next time. Learn from this and don't worry about taking a wrong turn on the solo bit. As long as you still ride confidently, safely and make progress it doesn't matter. In the real world everyone gets lost at some point or another.
Good luck with the next one pal, chin up!!

Re: Almost there but failed Mod 2 :(
Hi all, just to give a little update. I passed Mod 2 today with 2 minors
I just wanted to say thanks for all the encouragement. I took the cat to the garage for an MOT and I must say its very different to the CB600F that I learned on, then again I suppose it's like that with all new vehicles including cars.
Anyway, if anyone wants me I'll be down the industrial estate going round and round to get some experience

Weh-hey! Well done. Welcome to the club
Oh, and wipe that smile off your face!
Congratulations. Hope you take your time to get to know the'cat. You'll have a ball doing so.
Good luck with the move up to Aberdeen. You can always go up on the bike. Now that would be a proper rideout

Re: Almost there but failed Mod 2 :(
Yeh very well done, you will love the cat . I too learnt on a CB and once I threw my leg over the cat I was shocked on how the bike felt, seemed bit too powerful at first but then its only as fast as you want to go and its great bike for just cruising about on. Am still getting used to it now but so much fun doing it. Enjoy and stay safe

Cheers everyone. I must admit it is a big weight off knowing I can move to Aberdeen and not worry about having to learn new routes and instructors etc.
