Knew a guy from deepest darkest Peru once. Had a strange liking for marmalade sandwiches. Was a real bear of a man. Met him in a bar in Paddington station....... Sorry, this is not helping is it?
Anyway good luck. Read "Lois on the Loose" as recommended by ezzie's mum in the book section on the site. I read it and I'm sure there's info on riding thru Peru in her book. left thumb up
Wish I could come with you Edave sounds like my kinda trip!!

Sorry Dave I will be of no use here, I can still see/ remember Teofilo Cubillas gubbing Scotland in 1978 then, then whole team, later lying down to Argentina.

However when I saw the title of the thread I thought you were just describing yourself! pmsl

A former colleague has moved to Lima, she has done a bit of traveling in the region in the few months she's been there. If you like I could ask her for you, if she doesn't know I'm sure she'll ask her Peruvian hubby.

Wow - that was random Dave.....verging on chaos.

So Wee Mac 2013 will be a warm up act then?

I'm sure your trip will be a crazy adventure in an unusual and varied climate.
You'll need to be able to deal with the unexpected and I'm sure you'll meet lots of strange people who dress funny ,talk funny, drink and eat strange things.

But once you've completed Wee Mac, Peru will be a doddle. Wink

Don't forget travel vacs & anti malarials.
(Some vacs need doing in plenty of time)

I have a colleague that's taking a 6 month sabbatical to take her children travelling around South America for 6 months.

Stay somewhere safe & have a great time.

Do some reviews too of people that have done it already?

ah anti malarials, thanks for the reminder ellie, wasnt sure about whether I would need those or not yet.

I think I should only need a yellow fever booster if anything as I got jabbed up for egyption diving last year, but will check with my friendly nurse.

I am hoping if we do make it there to do a mini film of it all, and of course I will do a write up on here to

Yellow fever jab lasts 10 years.
Have always been taught the best anti malarial solution is to keep covered up and not get bitten!!! No shorts or Tshirts at dusk or dawn.
Be careful with anti malarial drugs as they can make you quite ill!!
Better than dying of malaria but some can have bad side effects.
Do some research and try and find a good doc that knows what he's on about. Didn't think Peru was a malaria region tho but you can check it out on the world health org website.

Yes, Jeremy and his sister was the very 1st kids to get the Paddington bear soft toys (as we know of the soft toy today). Created by Gabrielle designs (his mum and dads shop).

Funny, he never mentioned it when me and Linz watched him the other week, while at Top Gear, recording the 1st of the new series.

The Pagani Huayra looked marvelous in green. Cool

Only ever take malarone, don't bother with anything else and they're perfectly safe.

Don't ask a doc, they don't know what they're talking about lol, phone your surgery and ask to speak to the Practice Nurse.

Yellow fever does last 10 years, but make sure you have Hep A/B, & defo have the cholera Imm (it's a drink) as that also protects you from e-coli.

the cholera one is def worth me looking at, I should be ok for yellow fever then as I went to Uganda in 07, took malarone for 7 weeks for there so know they are good, some of the cheapy anti malarails arent so good if I remember from my research.

I'll be going to see the nurse for my jabs update, she knows wayyyy more than the dr's!

thanks for the advice boys and girls great

from the research we've done it is good value and hopefully a bit of an adventure for not a fortune!

Hopefully we'll get on some bikes if i dont spend too long taking pictures or trying to find a bear who likes marmalade sandwiches...
