Re: My Tango Cat!!!
Hi All
Just had the fairings off mine for the first time. Engine is a bit stained, but there again it is 12 years old. I took the downpipes (headers) off give them a good clean with a wire wheel and then resprayed them matt black. Have had a good go at the front of the motor, but it's not as clean as I would like, but you cant see much of it when the fairings are on. I tried everthing to clean it including soap powder mixed with washing up liquid and leave it on for a couple of hours, engine cleaner, caustic soda, but that was a waste of time, just burnt my fingers but the thing is ,it's cleaner than it was. I'm going to put some of that grid/mesh stuff that you use to cook oven chips on,in the front infill pane, just to set it off.
I will post some pic's tomorrow.

Re: My Tango Cat!!!
Hi Steve
I did something similar to mine and covered the gaps you mentioned and also the two gaps on each the rear fairing.
The mesh stuff I bought was from an autopart place but feel free to use a chip dish.
If it does the job at half the price then why not.
Cheers
Rosco

I just had this mad idea when I first saw that high temp meshing that you can get from the pound shops and thought yes I gotta try it and then i went into Aldi and they had some in black, but bugger me they have sold out of the black one,so I will have to use the gold coloured one instead.
Only gonna do the v-panel at the front, for the time being.
Thanks
Steve

Re: My Tango Cat!!!
Hi Yamahamad
Had no probs getting the pipes off, they came undone real easy. I was worried that they were going to be pigs to undo so I WD-40'd them the night before.
My downpipes were well rusty so I got one of those wire brush attachments for the electric drill,I think it came from Poundland or somewhere cheap, but it did the job. I managed to re-use the old O-rings as they looked OK and they dont blow,I put a bit of grease on them to hold them in place and when I fired her up it smelt like Castrol R luvvly!!!. I used a tin of that High Temperature Exhaust paint from the local car shop and it cost me £6. Front of the engines on Yammies seem a bit of a pig to clean, mine did'nt come up as good as I would have liked, but not to bad. I engine cleaned it and then got a wheel brush and mixed some soap powder and washing up liquid together into a paste then daubed it on the front of the engine, left it for about an hour then scrubbed it and then washed it off.
Here are some pic's.
It's not the best job in the world, but it's cleaner than it was.
I just got to get the fairings back on now.
I was going to take all the little brackets off for the fairings, but it seems a lot of hassle as they are bolted into the sump and if I break one of those off,I am really in the SH*T
Take Care

Re: My Tango Cat!!!
OCD anyone???
Seriously can we have fairings on, cleaners away and then go flying round some dirt tracks or country lanes, my poor little Yazmeen is feeling bad and i'm a little embarrassed by state of her after looking at these pics!!!!
Dirt rocks...... at least until slightly warmer day with nothing better to do than strip her down and see if can clean to somewhere near standards!!!
