Cause for suspicion or celebration
It's that time again to renew the insurance Last year I paid £230 which included European Breakdown. This year same again from the broker can do me £210.
Time to shop around. Best web quote was £115 with MCE, called them to find out more but they left the price as is. Today they call me and tell me they can better it.
£83.34! same insurance company I'm currently with. UK breakdown cover is basic and I'll probably look at a better product, but at the price I can afford to bin theirs. Yes that is Fully Comp.
I've got to be missing something here

Re: Cause for suspicion or celebration
Hi Steve
I'm in the same boat with insurance due early next month.
MCE quoted very keenly for me too just under £100 fully comp on my 12 year old I valued at 1300.
I am going to Germany in May so need european cover.
Carole Nash seem the best at the moment at they include uk and european accident and breakdown cover (not sure of all the details yet) for under £130 for me fully comp. £200 comp excess.
Only issues I have is with modifications. Does heated grips, a top box count? Guess I'll need to phone them to double check.
My cn quote was for no mods but said you could still phone in and they could still cover you.
Will wait and see what my Bennetts renewal says too.
Cheers

Re: Cause for suspicion or celebration
Nothing to do with the insurance but with the extras. I have a halifax award account that costs £7.50 a month, as long as you pay in a grand a month. but this gives you the following benefits.
AA breakdown cover for you - 1/4 mile away from your home, covers anything you are travelling in.
World Wide Family travel insurance
Mobile phone insurance
Home emergency cover
Travel accident cover
Card protection
For £90 a year I thought this was a good deal. I think AA cover its around the £40-50 range for starters.
Saved me on insurance extras. :pirat:

Doesn't look like CN is working for me. They came in most expensive at £275 but with probably better cover.
Modifications they seem concerned about are things like performance pipes, custom paint job. Top box can be covered, seems as a declared item. They will also cover your sound system (Starcom isn't it) and I think the SatNav, by the time we got there I was confused.
Heated grips etc don't make any difference.
They were going to phone me back if the could improve their quote, but no call - so much for beating any quote.

I applied for an upgrade on my account, but it took them 6 weeks to get back to me, by which time I was in Zambia and didn't appreciate the roaming charges and asked them to contact me when I was back in Blighty.
My mortgage comes through and I ask them what happened to my upgrade - cancelled. Would have had a nice Reward had that been sorted properly.

Thanks have tried a few of them. I can be quite impatient at times and some of the sites bomb out on me. That d@m meercat site won't accept my postcode for example.
I have found the best prices seem to come from using a comparison website, then wait for the phone to ring, they manage to tweek all sorts to get the business

insurance
Hi, found myself in a similar situation 2 weeks ago. Last year f/c ins. with c/n was £164.00 wirth £200 excess and full UK and cont. breakdown cover. This year they wanted £275.00 with an excess of £500 told them to stuff it. Found f/c with full UK and cont. cover with RAC for £147.00 with Devitts, underwriter is Royal Sun Alliance, not some backstreet outfit. Slight drawback is £300.00 excess, but this was the best I could negotiate. The site I used was [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] money for nothing deal. By just getting a quote from them they threw in free legal expenses cover as well! Quite chuffed with this deal.

Re: Cause for suspicion or celebration
I found if you get quote from bike insurer they phone you to follow up, when they called i said had rec'd quote £100 less than actual and they ran round frantic came back 5 minutes later, matching my cheapest (phoney) quote and offered to do with less excess, good as computer chasing is speaking to them sill best option, good luck in hunt!!
