Organised rideouts.... Empty Organised rideouts....

Post  robertcains Tue Apr 25 2017, 10:33

As most of you know I'll be stepping back from the BC rideouts for the foreseeable after this years BC, not sure if it's permanent or just a sabbatical at this stage but I'd like to thank each & every one of you who have supported myself & Ellie for the past nine years.

There are many factors in my decision but I'm finding riding less enjoyable at the moment & also have a very busy life with family & work & the logistics have been a problem for me recently living in Derbyshire.

The police are extremely heavy handed in this area now & have been prolific already this year pulling bikers for 'safety chats' & landing them with £100 on the spot fines for each exhaust or number plate offence (not sure what this has to do with safety)

I'm hanging onto the Exup for now & am really enjoying the change the Can-Am is giving me even though it's extremely different to a bike.

Below is another nail in the coffin & I bet track day organisers are rubbing their hands right now lol,

Thanks Nick

This better be a sabbatical.

Thanks for organising them Nick.
Looking forward to the "last" one and bullying you into more.

You can always head North.

Weemac 2018 on the CanAm has got your name all over it.

Cheers

BC has always been my favourite ride out (sorry Chris SnT & Chris ToL I still like yours too) but even when we went to Blue rinse country a couple of yrs ago it was great so hats off to you Nick (and Ellie) for all the organisation and planning that goes into making these rides a success. As I've said before I would never dream of trying to organise one as I haven't the patience. Mine would be ride two roads, back to the hotel, changed, pub for the weekend!!

If it's just a sabbatical then all well and good but if the hi-vis is being hung up then good luck to you, think we can honestly say it's been a blast and I hope I will still see you out and about on the roads at some point or at least on messenger for our late night chats about any old Bollards.

P.S don't worry about the po po's and their fancy schmancy "new" rules, that article has been out as long as you've been leading rideouts and you've always got us home safe (mostly), sound (not always it can be said) and most importantly ticket free.

Good luck pal and see you in a few weeks for the last horrahh!!!

I believe that ruling was overturned on appeal.

So long as you brief everyone on the ride to ride safely and legally (ahem) I think you're in the clear.

Unless you get busted yourself, of course!

So the Cotswolds run will be on roads where you can enjoy yourself without feeling the need to go bananas (straight or otherwise).

I thing that's the key. Make it clear that there is no need to 'keep up' because the marker system will ensure you don't get lost. For added peace of mind you could get everyone to sign or at least carry a copy of some 'rules' that make it clear that you ride for yourself and don't have to catch up. It makes it a bit impersonal and corporate but that's the way things are going.

FWIW some of my favourite ride out memories are of riding alone on great roads, knowing I was going to find the group at some point so simply enjoying the ride.

Big thanks Nick for running BC for so many years, it really is my fav ride out (not knocking any of the others at all!) love it and gutted I haven't been able to make the last few years.

Hopefully tis just a sabbatical and we are back in the land of the dragon soon.

Have a cracker this weekend to those who go
