cool Hello All

Post  saxman Sat Jul 26 2014, 19:23

Hello all, I've been riding for 10 years and have recently bought a 96 thundercat as a commuter. I am hoping to do the servicing myself, and have just equip myself with a Haynes manual. Whilst i've done bit and pieces before on my other bikes, i've generally taken them to a garage/mechanic to get them serviced. I've always wanted to learn more about bikes, and thought the cat might be a good bike to start on.

Anyway, i'll probably be posting lots of questions about servicing. Also looking to build up my riding skill by taking it on the track, i've always been nervous about taking my other bikes on the track as I've spent a lot on doing them up. Look forward to making some new friends and joining in with some ride out/meets

Hello & Welcome Sax,

Have a good snoop around the boards, especially the Workshops forums.
There is also the Thundercat known Issues PDF to have a brows through.
Be aware that some of the torque settings have been the subject of typo's on some important bits in the Haynes manual for the Cat, . . . notably the engine mounting bolts, . . . I think (don't quote me), that they got their fives and fours confused.

anyway, .. .. .. .. enjoy and welcome again.

Hi Sax

Welcome aboard.
Trust you'll enjoy the new bike.
Servicing the cat is quite straightforward and the Haynes manual is pretty good.

Wouldn't worry about shims as mine and many others I know have never needed touched.

Cheers

Hi & welcome. Good choice of bike as they are relatively easy to work on. Most of the questions you could ask already have been & would be answered quickly.

Hi Sax,

Welcome to the site. The 'cat is still a fine looking bike, particularly in that colour.
Enjoy it and the site. We're a friendly bunch and happy to answer all questions, just ask away.
Hope to can catch up with some of us on the rideouts.

Cheers,
Chris
