Chains Empty Chains

As one or two of you know, I do a little part time recovery work. Yesterday I was called to a job on the A66 a notoriously dangerous road. Reported fault, broken chain on a Triumph Daytona. Found him, no bother, As we are loading the bike he starts telling me of the incident. He was trying to catch his mates up (I asked whether they practiced the drop off system, he,d never heard of it, and there were 22 of them) and was doing about 120 when the chain departed, part of it had hit the back of his leg, another part had mangled his chain guard, rear hugger mudguard etc. But here's the real frightener, a large part was flung up behind him into the path of another mate riding at the same speed behind him, thankfully just missing him. Before I could ask him the obvious, he then tells me the bike had been in his local dealer 3 days ago for some small job or other, and that the dealer commented that the chain was a bit worn, so he had a new one fitted and instructed them to fit new sprockets at the same time. I think said dealer will be expecting a rather irate ex. customer any time now. By the way the bike had only done 12,000 miles.

It seems that just about every time I ride out with you, either I or one of our party finish up rescuing or repairing that ratbike of yours.
(p.s sorry Ross but you really were standing with your legs apart for that one)
