Ride up to the borders
With only a few weeks before the 1st official meet of 2014, I thought I'd start a post for all the peeps traveling "t'up north".
Is there any preferences on a meeting place and times for a grand Friday ride?
Please post suggestions / time limitations etc so that we can ride up in a group or groups and make it a little more pleasant for all who are going.
Cheers Rich.
BTW, I'm easy I'll tag on to anybody who is traveling up. Based in Hull so the Scotch Corner meet has been done before as has Kirkby Stephen off the A66.

Sounds good Rich, we'll be heading up fairly early I think and making a day of the ride there.

i'm having to do the ride up from oxfordshire in one hit currently so not sure if I can meet up with peeps on the way north, though all depends when and where people are meeting. As would be nice to ride up with a group

Re: Ride up to the borders
There is some wedding function there so I think the earliest we can be there is about 4:30 - 5pm.
I'll try and get a food & drinks delivery sorted for very soon afterwards.

Re: Ride up to the borders
Might have a later set off time then. Alternatively, I can aim for 9 as usual then tighten (or not) the final screw and set off at 11 as usual.....

Re: Ride up to the borders
Our plan so far is M1, M18, A1, coffee at Squires
A1, A1, A1, Scotch Corner, probably a bite to eat.
A1, A68 to Jedburgh. No idea where we'll stop in this stretch, we couldn't see more than 10 metres all the way through here last year so stopped frequently
Timings: No idea yet. If we say we'll set off 10:00 it'll probably be just gone 11 so depends when anyone else going up this side of the country goes anywhere

Re: Ride up to the borders
Looking at your route Chris I'd try and meet you at Kirkby Lonsdale depending on your timings.

Re: Ride up to the borders
Kirby Lonsdale would be OK for me and also the Fylde Coast brigade (chicken Tim, Bob et al) but perhaps not for Ojay, but again its only about 20 mins from SC to Kirby Stephen where we all met up last year. What do you think?

Re: Ride up to the borders
Plenty places for folk to meet up enroute, Richmond/Scotch Corner, Kirkby Lonsdale, Alston, Hexham, Bonchester Bridge.
Most folk have my number so I don't mind being the point of contact for arrangements.
If OhJay is talking about riding up from darn sarf at around 10-11 ish and we're leaving Richmond/Scotch Corner at about the same time we'll be at least a few hours ahead of him.

Re: Ride up to the borders
Well as our Linz and boy'o won't be up there till late evening and I have the day off work, I'm good for any scenic route.
You on your new toy Chris or on the ballistic touring bike?
Will be on the Fazer for this one as it looks like I'm at Cadwell Park on the Tuesday (15th) for a track day on the R1.

Re: Ride up to the borders
I'm talking about leaving Derby actually (I know that's still daaahn saaarf for you ), bike lives up at Cat's nowadays and that's where we'll be starting from. I'll go change my location, save future confusion.
Hexham looks like the obvious meet up target on Eddie's route to me, Scotch Corner and then A68 up. You got that route in tyre Eddie, get it in my SatNav?
Anyone know Hexham and decent meeting spots there?

Re: Ride up to the borders
Haha, I spend most of my time in Scalloway up in Shetland these days so EVERYWHERE is south!
There are a few places in Hexham. A massive Waitrose and Tesco that you can't miss and an Esso garage nearby. Over the bridge and left at the second roundabout.
Another option of course is to head from Scotch Corner along the A66 to Barnard Castle then B6277 to Alston. Great road.

Looks possible, see what sort of time we're at Scotch Corner... or more importantly leaving Scotch Corner.

Re: Ride up to the borders
I'll most likely be on the FJR Rob, the RC8 isn't run in yet and probably won't be by the time we're heading up the road.

I should be up for meeting at devils at 12 all being well. Krustette is at a conference at Glasgow so will need to factor in meeting her en route somehow, would we go anywhere near?

Re: Ride up to the borders
We're not planning on heading that far west Paul, but it wouldn't be too far for you to head a little further north and meet at one of the mainline rail stations?
