Seems it's now OK to wear hi-viz which could be mistaken for Police issue in London.

Well fine on bicycles and motorcycles but you'll still get done for impersonating a police officer if you wear one whilst riding a horse (that bit isn't in the article).

Might not be safe in other parts of the country though - another reason to live in London pmsl

What, so you can look like a Cop if you want to?

In many parts of the country that's probably the last thing you want to look like. green smile

Ross has what looks like a genuine police fluorescent yellow jacket (and I'm sure it is) with the blue and white chequered piping, if he rode like a copper and had a proper bike you just might think he was one. ( a copper I mean)

Unusual for Belgian drivers, found them to be on the ball normally. Following distances abysmal, copper didn't help stopping ahead of the on-ramp. I'm sure if drivers saw the ramp they would, as is usual, move over to let merging traffic in.
Incidentally, the top strap text said Rider seriously injured but not life threatening.

On a motorway, I don't think so. That was a job for a police car / 4x4 and some clear warning. To move in front of a HGV even with flashing lights, the law behind you and a hi viz is a leap of faith or stupidity. I'm not saying the cars were without fault, but we saw the consequences. Position yourself to always, as far as possible, be clearly seen.

It does help clear the traffic in front of you from time to time Smile

Ouch...it looks like he was trying to stop all traffic so that the ambulance / bikers following could get straight on to the motorway.

The drivers were daft to think that the lorry made such a manoeuvre for nothing.
Getting off the bike (to try to stop the vehicles) might have given him more of a chance to avoid injury.

We've occasionally blocked slow moving traffic to allow a group to exit a junction on a group ride.
Wouldn't dream of trying it on a multi-lane / high-speed road though.

Hope the biker mended well.

Ouchy..Shocked
Quite handy that it was an ambulance being escorted.

(With hindsight he'd have been better off stopping further down on the chevrons, or at the very least in a position where he could pull away back onto the slip road again...maybe he was a bit of a newbie...)
