Evening, haven't been on much in last year or so, been keeping abreast and lurking but not posting or commenting much but hoping to be bit more active during my rehab and bike restoration!!!

Unfortunately shortly after replacing tyres with some very nice Michelin pilot power 2CT got nice 4" screw straight thru middle of rear and after meeting lady of my dreams and organising wedding couldn't really afford new one so took her off road (bike not new lady) As we moved house she got left on front drive and has become a bit neglected, and also I have been struggling with my back and after much badgering from the new Mrs McGuigan went for check only to discover reason is compression fracture in 2 vertebrae a prolapsed disc and much degradation in general!! So while I'm in no position to ride bike am giving her bit of TLC!!!

New rear tyre, new wavy discs front and rear, sending calipers off for rebuild and re-coating, braided lines, new levers and hopefully new paint job into the mix!! left thumb up

Gonna have to repair fixings on front lower V section of fairing (damn those high curbs) and replace front mud guard (damn those disc locks) wall eejit moment!!!

But also wanted to ask, I know the 'Cat isn't ultra sporty but anyone else on here suffer from bad back and pass judgement as to whether she will still be suitable or not!! Certainly hope so!!'n

Hi, good to have you back, all the best with married life. You had gone quiet even on the book of faces. All the best for getting your back improved.

I can't say if the bike is still suitable, I'd guess you'd need to be more upright. Some folk have fitted bar raisers. Proper advice will be along shortly.

Welcome back! Sorry to hear about the back problems... if you are a taller rider the cat can still test you over huge distances although this can be avoided with regular stops and making sure you don't wear a heavy backpack. If worse comes to worse it's very easy to get bar risers on the cat so no problemo!

Have fun with cleaning up the cat and all the best for a speedy recovery with the back.

Congratulations on getting married and happy new home too.
Commiserations on the back problems.

I think the key is staying relaxed and to put as little strain on the back as you can.

I can certainly commiserate with you on the back situation and congrats on the marriage. Best thing I ever did and don't let people tell you different.

Having got a chronic bad back & knackered disc, I think it doesn't matter whether its upright or a sports bike, it's the sitting in one position for ages that hurts.

I also take ibuprofen & paracetamol before setting off these days.

I also wear a kidney protector thingey which I find helps & keeps my back warm.

Ellie might have nailed it.

Bruce Robertson (who used to run Best Rider Training in Shotts) had to give it up completely with a bad back, and he tried a number of different bikes beforehand.
He was on them all day every day though.

After he gave up the MC's he took up mountain biking.
Then he called me a couple of months ago and said he'd had a heart attack, so he's had to give that up as well.
Lucky white heather, eh? Smile

You might be ok for occasional weekend riding JDM, but you probably won't know until you give it a bash.
I'd also give some thought over the remote possibility of having an off with an already bad back. :/

Cheers guys, loving the married life, greatest thing ever!!

Had feeling comments would be along those lines re. Back & Bike, struggling sitting properly at moment so looking at possibility of getting seat custom covered to include gel pads to maybe ease issue and give me little more assistance!! Will see, although if specialists have good news could all be irrelevant!!

And agree Ellie, Ibobrufen & Paracetamol are my new best friends along with various doctors mixes inc. Codeine, Tramadol, Diclofenic & amtryptoline!! Haha rattle everywhere at moment!!

Congrats on the marriage Gigsy, glad it all went well and that married life is just as fab as you were expecting it to be great

The back sounds a bugger though, nothing worse than constant pain. Sounds like you've got at least some sort of decent pain relief for the moment....ever thought of acupuncture? It's not everyone's bag, however I had a lot of success getting rid of back pain with it. Just another option... it may or may not work for you Question

The bar risers might help a bit too...... Ellie's right, it tends to be the constant position that really irks it..... you'll have have to have more breaks when out on a run.... simplez!

That aside, it's great to have you back... thought you'd been quiet clappy Nice to hear that Sam is allowing you to pamper Yazmeen Wink

I have suffered from a dodgy back for years. I also Agree with Ellie, its the sitting in one position for ages that aint good.
I have had 1 disc removed and 1 shaved, and after years of steriod epidurals and taking various pills to numb the pain, I am now pain free.
This was down to getting fit, doing loads and loads of stretching and excercise. I am now completely free from all painkillers, just dont need them.
My advice for what its worth is go and see a good recommended Physio, get the right exercises and you will never look back.

Saying all that after a couple of hours on any bike it may take me a couple of minutes to get completely upright again, but there is no more pain involved just stiffness, (probably an age thing)
