My current company (part of a package with Surety insurance) has said no to an over 15 year old bike.
Anyone else come across this and who did you go with? Confined to the UK for now!

RAC for me, the AA will also cover and if you're with Carol Nash they too will cover it.

Thing to watch getting breakdown cover through your insurance is you can be limited to 10mile, i.e. they will only recover you to a place within 10mile of where you have broken down, the rest of the distance will cost you hundreds.

True and in the case of (IAMs ?) Surety I'm sure it's only 15 miles, I got it with mine but just have personal RAC cover through work which covers my car and bike anyway, insurance provided breakdown cover (again with the exception of Carol Nash) is pretty much pants.

Great stuff chaps, appreciate the advice. Will check out the status of our car cover and see if I can piggy back that. Otherwise will be putting in the call to the RAC. Just renewed my Surety as they cover me on some on road marshalling I do and other IAM stuff, thinking it might be Carole Nash next time though.

Carole Nash seem to be OK with the USR stuff, other companies did take the marshaling as an organised event and wanted to treat it like a track day.

And I think track days with the IAM or training days as they refer to it are covered by Surety, be interested to know how others see it. And yes the USR thing was totally accepted by Surety too.

I've just checked the wording of mine (Groupama via eBike) and it states that I might be liable for all the costs of recovery if I don't have evidence of a full service history.

How many people will have that on a 13 year old bike?

I phoned Carole Nash to check when I renewed earlier this year on my 98 cat.
Went into Europe in may/ June and wanted to be sure.

I'll be sticking with them for the foreseeable - the renewals have been creeping up though so I'll be haggling / signing up as a new rider & cancelling (actually cancelling isnt the correct term - telling them I'll not renew the current policy when it expires) for next time.

HTH

Rosco

Ps haven't had to breakdown/recovery this year but had to use them once for the previous two years.
Once from Oban to home (tyre yhat wouldn't seal) and once from Yorkshire to home (front sprocket nut took out my clutch push rod and oil pump helped oil to fin the path of least resistance.....onto my back tyre Shocked)
Very good service as far as I'm concerned.

+1 For Carol Nash they got me and my bike back from Spain.

And my renewal was actually cheaper this year with them, by a whole 46 pence green smile

AA nor RAC will collect you after an 'off' anymore.
I had to persuade them on the telephone that the rear brakes had failed (brake pedal & footpeg snapped off) rather than an RTC, we were pushing it home 100 miles otherwise!

I had that problem after my off last October and ended up riding it the 2hrs home while bike eas damaged and myself injured.

Recovery is going the way of the insurances - what can we get a way with not covering.

Both companies used to recover from accidents Pete, I guess times are hard & if they reduce what they cover it keeps costs down.
On saying that a few of the patrolmen will be economical with what they write down on the form, very much luck of the draw from experience.

RAC for me - free with Tesco Clubcard points. Only ever had them out for a puncture, which they plugged. (Which is more than some tyre dealers will do these days.)

Funny I was chatting to an tac patrol man earlier, they do somtimes recover from rtc as long as your fully comp insurance cover the cost , also aa use slime for punctures rather than a plugthat rac use, but you have to pay an extra £6 every time you use it. Price wise RAC offered to cover me for £9.26 a month , my AA is £7.80 a month both for roadside and recovery uk wide

The RAC refused to recover me when my foot peg broke off after it was knocked over in a car park. We then phoned back and said I couldn't ride it because the brakes didn't work & they took me home.

We used to phone them from A&E to recover vehicles after an RTC but I don't think they offer that service anymore.

I've been a member of the RAC 20 years. ( but then I was married to a patrolman for 20 years lol)
