YZFJohn - Back on 2 Wheels?

Post  YZFJohn on Thu Feb 21 2013, 12:53

Maybe jinxing things but have done a deal for the 2002 Kawasaki ZX636 below, 19,000 miles on the clock but she seems to have been looked after. Hope to pick it up Saturday if the MOT can be done in time (and no problems).

Couple of additions to it; tail tidy, LED Rear light with internal indicators & Viper Can + he's thrown in some track tyres with a lot of life left in them. It's from a small time dealer, lovely guy by the name of Greg Roberts in baumber near Holbeach, done some racing in his time and does track days himself hence the track tyres.

Anyway, the Pics:

The only thing I will do straight away is get braided lines on her and maybe some Sintered pads and that will be all I could afford to do for now.

Looking good John, fingers crossed for the MOT! Hopefully this one will work out better than the GSXR.

furballs Davie used to have a similar Ninja in green.

Hope this means we'll see you this year at a few rideouts?

MOT passed with rear tyre advisory but already knew it didn't have much life left in it. He's going to deliver it tomorrow or Saturday.

I hope to but still got to be careful with the pennies. Local dealer is sound a trackday at Snetterton where there hoping to have 3 instructors along so really want to do that and have more than my fair share of time with an instructor.

Downloaded a service manual already. deal

That looks like a tidy bike.
Take it easy once you get your hands on her , enjoy and hopefully you can bring it up for a meet at Willingham sometime?

Nice John, congrats.

I rode one similar a few years ago whilst visiting down in the Southern Hemisphere - bike bug bit back very hard and a few weeks later I bought SteveCat1.

It's a standard colour scheme that was offered instead of boogie green.

It's in the Shed.

He did find a small crack in the fairing that he had not spotted before and I didn't spot it, so as compensation he has thrown in a set of Pirelli (i think) super corsa's that have done a couple of laps on a track. This is as well as the used track tyres he was originally supplying - seems fair.

Have been warned that without tyre warmers I must do 2 easy laps on the trackies to warm them up or will get a nasty surprise.

Quick ride tonight if I can get away from work early enough.

This is the guy - [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Lovely looking bike John. Nice find.

Baumber near Horncastle do you mean you got it from? He must be new as I've never seen him before and lived near there for 10 years. Good luck to him, lincs is short of second hand bike shops.

Bet you're all excited Very Happy

Go steady taking your road bike on the track! If you trash it, it's back to square one.

Let us know if you do Waddington Airfield riding day, don't think we'll be doing it, Nick won't track his bike.

So pleased you're back on two wheels.

Re: YZFJohn - Back on 2 Wheels?

Mine has a Viper can on it but have the original as well.

Went out on it this morning nuts I know.

Events so far:
Battery died last night while using as illumination while tinkering - put it on optimise overnight and went to bed.
Got up early and started with the brakes. Very little fluid and what was there can only be described as chocalot in color and not much better in consistency. Replaced fluid and bled, gave her a polish and went for a ride.

Went straight onto A1 and once in third opened her right up being me with a wheel spin, ok tyres are crap. Got 1/2 mile and she started spluttering and quit. Got on to a slip road and was about to strip the seats of to see if a battery terminal had come of when I saw the reserve switch, Mmmmmm, yep after a couple of turns she fired up again.

Well ended up in work and made it back home safe.

The power delivery is a lot smother than the Cat but feels bags more powerful. Really not happy with the brakes still so when the braided ones arrive I shall strip the Callipers as well.

The Supercorsas he gave me are 180 but the track tyres BT003 are a 190.

Really need a good dry day as in today's conditions it feels like the accident is messing with my head, every little twitch from the crap tyres is met with going ridged and anger and going ridged. Give me a sunny 8deg weekend please.

Kwakkat, be good to meet up so you can see her when the weathers warmer.

Ellie - Webbs track day has been cancelled due to politics so I will be booking Waddington. Be nice if some peeps could come along even to watch.

Well, warm up and then back to to tinkering.
