Hi all and Merry xmas,

Thought I'd put on a message of my dilemma and warn all newbies to the world of motorcycling like myself of the challenges they may face when playing with their new toy. violin

As you know i haven't passed my test etc just yet and have recently bought a bike before completing this. :whoop:
And also, as you know, I am not allowed by law to use it, Mad plus ill be grounded (at 32) if i do lol, and so i start her up, let her warm up and play with the go bar, 'throttle' . Happy days.

Only the other day i thought that due to the cold weather i would do what i normally do as i said above. I press the buttons on the alarm fob, bleep bleep, immobiliser unarmed, key in, and turn, neutral light on. choke on, So far so good you think, i did too, pressed the start button and it's dead, nothing. It didn't surprise me as it's been effin freezing.
I tell the misses to find my trickle charger and extensions, ' can't find em, you'll have to do it tomorrow' she says.

Next day, 1hr30 minutes later found all extensions, plugged charger in. I thought i'd have one more go before i connect it. Only this time i remembered i'd turned on the KILL SWITCH. Steam Ears

Happy days shes running, lol

I then thought i'd play with the gears, obviously without riding her, only so the gearbox doesn't get stiff. a newbie idea, not sure if its a good one but i thought it sounded good and plausible.
she died on me.
I try again and again. no such luck kept on dying on me,i've read the forums and some say hold clutch lever in for a bit to release plate etc, i did so. Still cutting out on me. I thought id been sold a lemon. I felt really upset and hard done by and consoled myself with a Jacks n coke.

Now let me remind all newbies on this forum, if your trying to change gear and your bike cuts out, make sure you put the KICK STAND UP. LMAO

Btw my bike is fine, with no issues and runs like a beaut. Let this be a lesson to you lol

Yep- I'd be very surprised any biker has not done that at least once.....although the time to spot the mistake and rectify as well as the expletives used do tend to vary Smile

Trust you'll not do it again ( or at least not have to wait as long till your Eureka moment )

On my very first bike I visited a motor biking uncle and he had a wee shot. He brought it back with the side light on (not main beam) and I then rode all the way home in the dark thinking I'd blown a bulb and going between seeing next to nothing and blinding folk with my flash full beam. Doh!

Glad you're sorted now.

Cheers

we have all done these things, friend of mine did that..... she panic phoned me as someone was coming to see the bike and she couldnt get the bike to start and this chap was going to be there in 20 mins, so being a good friend took my charger over, along with some tools and my battery to donate to her so if this bloke wanted the bike he could ride it away that day.
get there and she is getting really worried, i throw a leg over and look at it then notice the kill switch down lol!!

we all do these things, its all part of the learnding Wink

glad the bikes all ok though,

but I will second a numpty point!!

Yep. I've definitely done this before...and when you have a new motorbike and have just passed your test and you want to set off into the sunset in a cloud of screaming dust. Remember to kick up your stand so as not to cut out. Embarrassing.
