What a waste of a life
First topic message reminder :
WHEELIE
At the risk of coming across as an old fart i get really upset when i see headlines like this - I'd love to be able to pull a wheelie but i'm afraid i am of the opinion that the public road is no place to do it. A real waste of a life, a family left grieving, other road users put at risk traumatised, not to mention the healthcare professionals and police that have to not only literally pick up the pieces but also break the news to family and fuel for the fire for those that think this is how all bikers behave and for what purpose
such a tragic loss of life that needn't have happened.

Re: What a waste of a life
Here here Hutch - i've already a lost a very dear and close friend from this forum (Yorkshire Thundercat) - not his fault i hasten to add and I can honestly say there is not a week goes by when i don't still miss his silly texts and bloody awful jokes - one funeral was enough to go to i don't want to hear of any more on this forum.
Whenever there's a rideout i'm like my dad was with the Lancs in the war - i may not comment but i check regularly on the sign in posts to make sure we've not lost anyone.
Like i say, i would love to have the skill to ride fast, do wheelies etc - but i don't and i know my limitations - it's enough hassle us having to put up with the usual 'biker' comments and dodging 'blind' drivers without running the gauntlet by pulling stunts on public roads.

am i right ?
No Tom The comment wasn't meant for you, it was merely my personal concern that people are relating what they do on these games to "getting away with it" in the real world. Young people find it difficult to differentiate between "the game" and real life but in the words of Eminem " Life ain't no Nintendo game"!!
Take it how you will.

Until your mind is telling you things and your body/eyesight/reflexes can't keep up. What was the line from Officer and a Gentleman.. "your mouths writing cheques your arse can't cash"!!
I used to run a 10k in under 50 minutes, mind still willing, ability .....

Simply not true, your reflexes, eyesight, mental agility, etc all deteriorate as we get older. The only saving grace is many older bikers are indeed wiser and more able to anticipate conditions etc and so the need for sharpness is lessened slightly but there is still a tipping point.
The argument is the older you are and the longer you have ridden the better equipped you should be to deal with what the road throws at you. (unless a brainless idiot in a car is what's thrown at you
Stay safe out there everyone, especially if you must commute in this inclement weather, or you're stupid enough to go out in it by choice like me!!

Re: What a waste of a life
I know you were Tom, I wasn't having a go mate, just saying all are not equal, if only, I'm touching 40 and wish I was your age and that's not a massive difference, I'm sure you'd like to be 18 again mate.
Unfortunately we all have to get older, doesn't mean we can't enjoy ourselves with it
