Hi, New Cat Owner Empty Hi, New Cat Owner

Hi
I am now a Cat owner, finally having bought one last month. Very pleased with it, X plate, 25K miles and in reasonable condition. Poor thing, it won't know what hit it, I tend to do about 20K per annum so my bikes tend to get worn out - this Cat replaces a ZZR600 which was just worn out at 98K.

After some questions here and elsewhere I put Dunlops on it for now and I am very impressed with them, but jury will remain out until I see the mileage from then.

pace a previous thread I started here, I ran the tank out and got 40+ reasonably fast miles from the reserve light going on; and I am regularly getting to 200 miles before it comes on with mixed motorway, city and A road riding. So overall petrol consumption slightly worse than the ZZR was, by about 5%. (yes, I carried a can of fuel on the back, and stopped and refilled as soon as it coughed the first time, so there was probably still a half litre usable. And yes I cleaned the filter and pipe when I got back and was pleasantly surprised at how clean it was.)

Handles well, stops very well, could do with a little more torque particularly for town riding but this is a very nice bike!

Welcome Qw8,

Sounds like you have done your research, so no need too say what a good choice the 'Cat' is.

Also sound like you are a rider of some experiance as well as somewhat in the ilk of our SteveCat who does high mileage on his thundercat , and that's still going strong.

Hope you've had a good brows around the forums and enjoy it here.

Perhaps we'll get to see you at one of the many rides and meets organised for all site members some day.

cheers

Thanks for your welcome, yes my research included this site, but had hankered after a Cat for quite a while (along with a few other choice bikes like Sprint and older VFRs, but the Cat more suited to my current state of pocket-emptiness).

'some experience' - yes, I'm old! 20+ yrs of riding (with some gaps). Yes, i will try and get out to some meets.

Thanks

Hi
I have Dunlop 207 Qualifiers 2, a mate was able to source and fit a set at a very good discount for me.
They are really good in teh dry, probably the best tyres I have ever had, and feel planted in the wet as well.

Hi & welcome. That's some mileage you do, mainly commuting?

The 'Cat is strong and if looked after will do very high mileage. One member had done over 205 thou miles before his engine gave up (story here).

If you do ride daily, then a little extra vigilance will be needed through the winter months. The bike is prone to corrosion and the brakes will get gummed up with the road grime. Was your previous bike carbed or Fuel Injected?

Hi, New Cat Owner Empty Thanks for all the welcomes

Thanks for all the welcomes
Yes, mainly commuting around various places and the odd long run.
I know all about seizing brakes, the ZZR was terrible for it, possibly the worst ever! It was carbed too, and being a Kwak one had to be careful of carb icing even with the carb rad water mod they put in.
Does the Cat carb ice much?

The 'Cat also has a rad water pipe, not sure why they bothered it doesn't seem to help. Yes it does suffer from carb icing, at around 5C. Most use FST or Dry Fuel, last year I tried ISO Propanol Alcohol, seems to be just as good at a fraction of the cost.

Oh yes, the ISO prop. alchohol is always best, also cleans tape heads well if you still have an old cassette deck or 8 track.....
