Staying inside the law Empty Staying inside the law

Thinking about this trip to Germany, it has recently been noted by Toni that the German laws are quite strict when it comes to what you can and can not do to your bike. Does this extend to visiting bikes as well? Is there anything we should know about before we come? Any modifications that might get us in trouble? For example, loud exhausts, non-standard number plates and so on? Is there also any rule about visors - can you wear dark visors? In the UK you can't wear anything more than a light tint, but people do and it is generally overlooked.

Must we also carry anything special? Spare bulbs? Warning triangle? First aid kit?

Advice from the natives is welcomed!

I'll leave this one to Toni for obvious reasons

But . . .

At the very minimum your drivers licence, insurance & registration documents. Oh and the EHIC

Yep, got all those on my 'to do' list! I know in some countries there are requirements in cars to carry 1st aid kits, hi-vis jackets, warning triangles, bulbs and (in Spain) spare glasses if you wear them.

My german isn't good enough to discuss these matters by the side of the road mit die Polizei!

Paul,

I'd take the bulbs, Hi-Viz and first aid along. You need to consider the countries you will be traveling through too.

I found space for the bulbs and first aid kit and they are permanent on the bike now. I have a motorcycle touring guide I can look at for you, lists what is required where - but maybe just take it all along. I wouldn't worry about the triangle though.
Sorry for stating what seems the obvious - you do have your puncture kit on your check list.
You have an alarm?

Because of that, I like Germany...

Sorry for the late answer Rolling Eyes

When you come to Germany with your bike the rules of your country apply in matters of plate, can or tyres

One exception: when your can is so loud that there is a danger of damage caused to someone's health the police may forbid to ride the bike Exclamation

Looking forward to meet you great
