Noob here

Morning folks, My name is Dave, i am 19 and been riding for 3 years.
I decided a few weeks ago i was going to sell my honda hornet and buy a thundercat.

I am now searching for a not to pricy Cat, seen a few advertised on dealer websites but there isnt many going private

Hopefully i can learn abit more about the pro's and con's of this bike and get one as soon as possible !

Hey, nah i wont be restricted for very much longer, the kit on my hornet didnt stay on for very long so if i do buy from a dealer it will be removed.

Smart looking cat that is (and in the best colours IMHO).

Normally Parkers used bike price guide is a good place to look for valuations. However the service seems to be down at the moment. LINK . I've put the link up in the hope that the service will be restored soon.

In my honest and humble opinion that looks to be a tad on the pricey side for a 2001 Y reg though , no matter how tidy.

I agree that looks a bit pricey with the miles that are on her not that it is too many just too much for that money.Does look nice though. And welcome.Paul.

yea thats what i was thinking, i recon anywere from 1400 > 2300 is a decent price for a cat?

Some of the con's i have herd about are blowing pipes and the exup valve going wrong. I have a good local mechanic so repairs and what not tend to be a fair price, but naturally i dont want to buy one with a big problem and end up spending hundreds fixing it

Good Luck in finding one, rode passed one for sale in a bike shop in Lincoln yesterday, but a tad far for you to travel me thinks!!!!

Welcome to the site mate, you should keep your restrictor kit in until you are old enough to ride. The thundercat will surprise the hell out of you. Plus you don’t need the points when you get pulled over.

My first big bike was a zx6-r, then the current is a hornet i did however have a zx9r for 3 weeks, powerful bike

I will do what i need to do end of the day

Looks like i might have found one in edinburgh, thanks to my old neigbour ( also has a cat )

so the hunt is looking good so far

Hi Davy.

Hope you manage to get one. It is a great bike.

They say 2nd gear is a weakness and can pop out.
I think the way to test it (no doubt will be clarified shortly is to put it in 2nd and go right through the rev range. You'll need a private road for this

Downpipes do corrode and can be notorious to remove.

Brakes are great if kept clean but they are a pain to clean.

i herd that on yamaha owners club, something to do with a exup valve, but if it doesnt have one it cant be! maybe something similar?

Yea my mate has his own motorcycle workshop so he will come with me to check it out. Thanks for the advice on brakes taking the calipers of and cleaning the pistons etc every 2/3 thousand miles is something i am more than happy to do, brakes can be important .

Hi Welcome . yes that is far too expensive , I bought my Cat in Dec 09 , I paid £2795 , it had 12500miles on the clock and is in mint condition , It's a 2003 model . Have a look at Auto trader -the bike section and you'll get an Idea of what people/dealers are asking for .

Some Yams have 'em isn't one of them. My pipes are original and the bikes' 13 years old

my old neigbour is brining his mates Cat round later this week. Its a P reg in red and white color scheme. I does look nice and clean, so hopefully i go ahead with buying that!

Turns out the bike only has 12k on the clocks and had a full service at a dealership in august. Looks like i am onto a winner

I'm in sunny shotts but my cat is still tucked up in bed for at least another month. It is purely for pleasure for me.

If you haven't already spotted them we organise a wee mac (one day rideout) in April and big mac (a two day rideout) in August.
